About Anomia
Anomia plays off the fact that our minds are positively brimming with all sorts of random information—things to eat, pop songs, websites, and more. While it is usually effortless to name a frozen food or a dog breed, your brain works entirely differently under the pressure of a fast-paced head-to-head match!
Players take turns drawing and revealing cards from a central deck into their personal display pile, constantly watching for matching symbols on opponent cards. The core game mechanics include:
- Face-Off Duels: When the symbol on your drawn card matches another player's top card, a face-off instantly begins. You must shout out an example of the category listed on your opponent's card before they can name the category on yours.
- Claiming Rewards: The first player to successfully blurt out a correct answer claims their opponent's top card as a point, placing it face-down in their personal score pile.
- Cascading Face-Offs: Winning a card often reveals a new top card in a player's pile, which can instantly trigger consecutive face-offs across the table in rapid succession.
- Wild Cards: Special wild cards introduce dual-symbol matches between previously non-matching cards, dramatically raising the level of attention and chaos required to stay ahead.
The game continues until the draw piles are completely exhausted, and the player with the most claimed cards at the end of the game wins.
